Anahata-Healing from the Heart

Cupping Therapy

Picture
is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
The cups may be made of:
  • Glass
  • Bamboo
  • Silicone

Cupping therapy might be trendy now, but it’s not new.
It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.
TypesThere are different methods of cupping, including:
  • Dry
  • Wet

DOES IT LEAVE UNSIGHTLY DARK CIRCLES ON THE SKIN?
A good therapist will explain the potential effect of Cupping on the skin prior to treatment to get your consent. It is likely that there may be a resulting reddening of the skin directly under the cup, the colour of which depends on the health of the underlying tissue. Healthy tissues do not leave a dark circle.

  • Increasing oxygenation and nutrient content within the tissue,
  • Removing stagnant blood and waste products,
  • Re-initiating the healing process to micro-trauma,
  • Stretches fascia and connective tissue, which leads to a relaxation response

Wet Cupping is also called Bloodletting and
draws toxins and dead blood from deep within the body to the surface. It stimulates the blood circulation releasing the stagnation and pain
